Contrary to popular belief, Nick did have a formal education, which culminated in his miraculous achievement of an Honours Degree in Music at Huddersfield Polytechnic in 1986. Since then, his vast and varied musical experience has generally been in the Brass Band world having spent eight years propping up the bottom end of Sellers Brass Band from being a founder member in 1986 to 1994, and an equal length of time propping up the bar at Brass Band contests. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge about the required strength of commitment for banding at the top, but just don’t ask him to sing any of the test pieces. Please don’t. Not that he would be able to remember any of them. Now residing in Harrogate, Nick has been with the Stray Brass Quintet since summer 2000, with numerous guest and soloist appearances in the Midlands with The Scirocco Ensemble for far too many years, and more recently has been gracing the back right corner of the Harrogate Symphony Orchestra, and occasionally the Harrogate Philharmonic Orchestra. He provides numerous arrangements and original compositions for the Stray Brass Quintet, and is a prolific writer of wedding and occasional music. He is always looking out for new commissions to help to finance his unfortunate addiction to golf. Please give generously. Thank You. May contain nuts. |
